Cardiff Bay Yacht Club was formed in 1932 and up until 1999 was known as the Penarth Motor Boat and Sailing Club and is now the Premier South Wales watersports club. Members enjoy a wide range of activities centered around the new Clubhouse which opened in 1998.

These activities include an active dinghy fleet comprising Mirrors, Lasers, Enterprises, Darts, Optimists and Flying Fifteens. A Sportsboat fleet regulary races inside the Bay and often joins the offshore racing fleet which races both 'around-the-cans' as well as passage races around the Bristol Channel.

The fishing section is a very active part of the club, with good fishing to be had all year around both in the Bay and in the Channel.

The Club offers its members a wide variety of facilities both nautical and social. The Club has extensive mooring rights on the River Ely and with a soon to be enlarged pontoon, there is usually a mooring available. A new dinghy slipway has recently been constructed and there is a dinghy park. The travelhoist is used by members for taking larger boats in and out of the water.
The Clubhouse is situated at the waters edge in the Bay and has a fine view of Cardiff and Penarth Head.

Inside there are two bars, a hall with seating for up to 150 diners with a stage and dance floor as well as commitee rooms. The well appointed kitchen is always available for meals and snacks. The Sunday lunches are very popular! For the weary and dirty sailor there are excellent changing rooms and showers which should enable gentlemen to be clean and tidy and wearing at least sleeves and a collar if they wish the use the bar!
